What a wonderful evening with friends sharing our passion for Montessori education and our school spirit at the 2013 Ithaca Festival Parade. Even a rain couldn't slow us down and I believe the two rainbows that followed the shower were a sign that Maria Montessori was smiling down on us.
Our float was designed and built by Namaste Montessori School students, ages two through twelve years old--very Montessori indeed. Some friends friends from the Trumansburg Montessori School and Montessori Bilingue also joined as we marched.
We are very blessed to have so many Montessori School options in Ithaca. I especially loved sharing the universal language of Montessori when parade watchers cheered us on and shouted "Hey, I recognize those materials. It's just like in my classroom!"
Of course our float is enviornmentally friendly and all that cardboard will be used as woodchip underlayment for the pathways in our school garden.
I love hearing our students explain to parade watchers, "That's not a Rubiks Cube, it's a Trinomial Cube! You know the representation of (a+b+c) cubed""
We needed to reduce the height of our Pink Tower of Cubes to 14 feet high in order to pass under sagging power lines. (We'll have to measure before building next time!)
Interjection!
Our lower elementary students made large cardboard representations of all the grammar symbols.
Got to love that school spirit!
A giant sandpaper letter--M for Montessori!
We do love our grammar.
Painting our faces like the Metal Insets for the parade.
Getting ready to leave the school parking lot and head downtown to the parade.
Can't wait to hear what next year's theme will be so we can start planning.....
