Shadow Puppets

The primary class continues to study the continent of Asia--there is so much to learn!
Thamora (Aiden's Mom) came into class on Wednesday to share a story
using traditional shadow puppets. Children had an opportunity to make their own shadow puppets and act out the story of Rama and Sita.

Rama and Sita, A Tale From Ancient Java
from the Ramayana

This is the story of brave Prince Rama, who is banished from his father's kingdom and sent into the jungle--banished forever.
Rama's love, Sita, and his brother, Lesmana, choose to stay with Rama.
They stay with him in exile.
Beautiful Sita is captured by a giant Ogre.
Rama, with the help of his brother, Lesmana, and Hanuman, King of the Monkeys, rescue Sita.
Prince Rama is able to return to his kingdom and take his rightful place as King,
with Sita, now his wife, by his side.

Making Tibetan Prayer Flags

The primary classroom has been studying the continent of Asia and recently learned about Tibet. They have been making Tibetan prayer flags to hang around the classroom and in their homes. Traditionally, prayer flags are used to promote peace, compassion, strength, and wisdom. A prayer flag is a colorful panel or rectangular cloth often strung along mountain ridges and peaks high in the Himalayas to bless the surrounding countryside. Blue symbolizes sky and space, white symbolizes air, red symbolizes fire, green symbolizes water, and yellow symbolizes earth.
